Occupational Therapy & how can it help you?
Although it might sound like it, the word ‘Occupation’ in 'Occupational Therapy' has nothing to do with your job but instead refers to any task that may spark joy, purpose and meaning in your life, whether that is cooking, getting out in the sun, or staying independent in your home.
So, what do we actually do?
Occupational therapists work with clients to maximise their independence and increase their confidence in completing a range of everyday tasks including shopping, showering, and household chores. We also prescribe equipment including wheelchairs, walkers, dressing aids and driving supports, as well as assisting with home modifications ranging from bathrooms, kitchens, ramps and rails. But it doesn't stop there, occupational therapy is full of unique specialities ranging from mental health, paediatrics, hand rehab...just to name a few.
How can we help?
Our main goal is to make life easier for you. We find out what your goals are, what you're struggling with, what brings joy to your life and what things are holding back. We then come up with strategies to help overcome these barriers, whether that is recommending supports, helping with skill development, home modifications, or equipment prescription.
We take a holistic approach in helping you get the most of your life and true to our "core purpose" we aim to help you to stay 'happy, healthy and independent'.
